Plush cows, tour books, selfies or stolen slippers from luxury hotels – ever since humans have been travelling, they have been collecting souvenirs. What do these souvenirs reveal about us? Are they personal treasures or interchangeable mass-produced goods? Evidence of summit experiences or staging for Instagram? " Souvenir" gives a voice to tourists on the Jungfraujoch, the owner of a souvenir shop, the mayor of a tourist hotspot and a summit stone collector, inviting us to reflect on our own travel behaviour.
Your mountain souvenir at the ALPS
For decades, the ALPS tourism collection has documented how we travel, experience and consume mountains. But there is a gap when it comes to souvenirs: historical mementos are plentiful, but contemporary souvenirs are almost completely absent. With the participatory collection format Lost and Found Office for Memories, we want to change exactly that – join in: bring us your mountain souvenir and tell us the story behind it. Register your contribution here.

The Lost and Found Memories Office is a participatory collection and exhibition project with themes that change every two years. Whether it’s about skiing treasures, women on the mountain, repairs or souvenirs, in the online Lost and Found Memories Office and in the Video Box you can find stories, photos, and videos of all the editions so far. Have fun browsing around!
Perhaps you’d also like to tell us a story about your favourite mountain memories or unusual souvenirs from the mountains? Why not join in, either in the exhibition itself or via the online Lost and Found Memories Office!
